I am related to the the Cornelius Tomson you refer to. My uncle's documentation included a letter from a "May L. Flickinger" saying as follows:

"Freehold, NJ was settled by Scots, largely Presbyterians --Cornelius Thomson, who lived in southernly part of the Township & in 1702 built the stone house still used as a farm residence.

Cornelius Thomson of Freehold was a Scotch immigrant. The ship "Henry & Francis" left Newcastle, England for East New Jersey on July 10, 1684 with passengers from the Scotch towns of Leith, Montrose, Aberdeen & Kirwall in Orkney Islands (Copied out of "East Jersey Under Proprietors" - pg. 136)

Old Stone House, Freehold NJ built by Cornelius Tomson or Thompson in 1702 on a farm west of Freehold, NJ, Monmouth Co., through which ran the Old Burlington Path, later called Old Englishmen's Path.

House built of fieldstone (the Jersey dark red sand stone found on farms there about) first stone house facing on that path & now a few hundred feet north Mt. Holly Road. Farm contains 900 acres some say & others 1400, is 4 miles west of Freehold.

The Tomson, Thomson, Thompson are of Scotch decent originally coming from Argyle & being Sophs of the Campbell clan, under whose banner the Tomsons marched & fought in Southwest Scotland, close by Wales. John Tomson of the Plymouth Colony, who came to America on the send sailing from Bristol on ship "Bristol" about 1620 came from Wales with his mother & step-father - genealogical books say.

I find in court records & genealogical data the name of same person & family spelling differs."

That's all she wrote. I assume May L. Flickinger may have been a historian @ an earlier date, 1980's possibly. My uncle is deceased, & he was the last of his generation.

I am researching generational lineage respectfully involving Cornelius & Elizabeth (Morris) Tomson, John & Rachel (Willson) Tomson, John & Margaret (DeBois) Tomson, Lefford & Susanna (Gray) Tomson, Abraham & Abigail (Brown) Tomson, Robert Morris & Catherine (Matthews) Tomson, William Marion & Hulda Jane (Moore) Tomson, Harry Moore & Pearl Ethel (Horn) Tomson.

If you have any knowledge of any of these members within or married into the Tomson family or records therein, I do hope you might share.
