Sandy,
Sorry for the delay. Samual Cowan Roddy is the son of William H. Roddy. He was born in Monroe County, Tenn in 1832.
Shortly thereafter the family moved to Northwest Ga, near Ringgold. U know of at least one brother, James, and one sister, Adaline. Samual C Roddy married Sarah Jobe in 1852
and they had four children by the start of the Civil War. He enlisted in the 29'th Georgia Regiment. He was taken prisoner at Vicksburg and released on a prisoner exchange a few weeks afterward.
He saw extensive fighting around Atlanta and Missionary Ridge. In 1876 the family, with six children moved to Johnson County, Texas. One daughter, Maryanne Frances Jane became my Great Grandmother. In 1906, Grandpa Roddy, as he was called, wrote memoirs detailing his war experiences. We (my mother) also has a typed copy of a letter he wrote to his Sister Adaline in 1864. We have a xerox of the "war diary." He died in 1917 and is buried in Bethesda Cemetary
near Burleson Tx., in Johnson County. (I think I must be kin to everyone in that cemetary in one way or another. Anyway, that's about the sum of it. Samuel's father, William H. Roddy may have been born in Franklyn Co. Tenn, though I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
Hope this was helpful. OH, i FORGOT, THE PERSON WHO DID THE rODDY HISTORY IN THE jOHNSON cOUNTY hOSTORY BOOK MENTIONED MEETING ANOTHER GROUP OF rODDY'S LIVING IN eAST tEXAS. tHEY HAD COME FROM aRKANSAS, BUT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THE TWO GROUPS WERE KIN. Will try to find out more when I get the chance. I still want to know where "across the waters" the Roddys came from, and when and why they came. Sorry for the sloppy too long message, but it is getting late.
W R Daniel
