I have some earlier Ransoms who first appear in the Virginia Colony in about 1700, with earlier members b.in England in the early 1600's. I wonder if they are connected to yours?
I believe that Peter Ransom II, b. 1679 in Ware, Glocester Co., Virginia Colony, is my 9th-great-grandfather. He married Dorothy Nash. They had at least one child, Ann Ransom, who married John Boswell Jr. about 1726 in Gloucester, Virginia Colony. One of their children was named Ransom Boswell, passing along Ann's name. This information comes from email exchanged with other researchers, as we are doing here.
I have circumstantial evidence that the father of Peter Ransom was James Ransom, b. ca. 1640, married Mary Baldwin Peyton. His father may have been Peter Ransom I, b. bef 1615, who married Anne Seymour. (These birth dates are based on age calculation only.) This is conjectural and without supporting documentation. However, I have noticed that one of Peter Ransom's children was named Seymour Ransom, and I assume this was for his mother.
You can see my info on the Ransoms in more detail here, as well as allied family lines.
