Dear Pat:
I am so excited I can hardly type this message. My 2nd Grt Grandparents were Archibald McCraine b. 1785 and Isabella McIsaac b. 1787. My Grt Grandparents were Alexander McCraine b. 1811 and Mary Darroch b. 1817. I have listed as a siblings of Alexander - an Ann McCraine b. 1816 - but I have her married to a John McArthur, which could be wrong. The other siblings are Mary b. 1810 who I think married a Donald Gray, Marrion b. 1814, Catherine b. 1820 who married Malcolm Keith, a child born 1823 and Flora b. 1824. All of course (Caigenhouse)Isle of Jura/Argyll. My grandmother, daughter of Alexander and Mary was Margaret McCraine b. September 29, 1858, d. Jan. 20, 1931. She married Murdoch MacLeod b. 1849, January 17, 1878. Murdoch was a mason who was employed building the Distillery in Caigenhouse. He boarded with Margaret's family. After they were married he took her back to Polbain, which is north of Ullapool, Parish of Lochbroom, Ross and Cromarty. As far as I know she never went back to Jura and family history says she always missed beautiful Jura. I have not been able to trace any McCraine relatives. Do you think there might be a connection? I know the name is not spelled the same, but I have seen many variations of the spelling.
Will look forward to hearing from you. If there is a connection, and I am HOPING there is, as it sure sounds like we are connected, I would be Ann's Grt. Grandniece.
Can hardly wait to hear from you. I have my fingers and toes crossed.
