Lucy,
I also have been told my Finley ancestors were of Indian descent. My mother tells me that she had an uncle whose name was Rich Finley. Rich belonged to Jack Finley & his first wife. I do not know her name.
Jack's second wife was named Alice. She had several children. The best my mother can recall is a daughter named Evelyn, a son named Clyde Raymond (her father), a daughter named Bessie that died young, twins that died at birth, and a son named Leonard.
After Jack died, Alice remarried a man whose last name is Seymour and had two sons, Harry and Marion.
Mother says her mother Tina Myrtle Jennings Pealer met Clyde Raymond Finley in Illinois, but the family moved to Missouri. (Clyde was Tina's second husband)
Tina's children were
Ethel Pealer Martin, Champ Pealer,Clarence Pealer, Huston Pealer, and June Pealer (she went by Finley) Epperson,
Junior Finley, Roy Finley, and Bessie Finley Kerns. (Bessie is my mother.)
As for the Indian descent, I was under the assumption Grandpa Clyde was 1/2 Cherokee. Unsure if it was from his mother or his father. From what I can gather from the bit of research I've done, there are Finley's that are also Choctaw & Chipewa as well.
I hope one of you can shed some light on ancestors before Jack. I have located a great Finley ancestry back to Scotland and 1210, but cannot find the links between them & ggranddad Jack. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
