Nan, I would love to have a copy of the picture. I think Chesley might be the son of Norman Greenslate, brother of my grandfather, Matt Greenslate. My e-mail address is eanderson148@home.com. Some of the Klare family have done research on that school and may have more information. Dorretta

You requested a copy of the 1916 Plymouth Grammar photo but you did not give your e-mail address. I clicked on your name but evidently can't read your address properly - the message and photo file were returned.

Nan, if you could send me a copy of the 1916 Plymouth Grammar School students, I would love it. Celia and Frances Peroni (it is spelled Pieroni) are my aunts. I lived in Plymouth as a young child. Thank you.

We have Evans and Stowers in our family. Love to have a copy of this photo. My uncle still lives in Jackson, and has all of his life. He is in his 80's. He may know something about someone in there. His father, aunts, and uncles also lived there. Jo

My great grandfather was A.J. Coster, local druggist. He should have had some kids in the school, or more likely grandkids in the school that year. Has any of the students been identified as a Coster? Thanks.

I searched the 1927 History of Amador Co. published by the Amador County Womens Clubs and found just this one entry:

---------------o---------------
Jonathan Sallee, the Jabez Wilds, Dr. Caldwell, the
A. J. Costers--all helped make Plymouth history.
Mrs. Webb Smith and Mrs. Richerdsen, daughters of
Caldwell, live in Sacramento, as does Walter
Caldwell, lawyer. Mrs. George Easton is a daughter
of Jonathan Sallee, and still makes Plymouth her
home, taking an active part in the town’s affairs.
Mrs. Dickerman, one of the oldest residents in our
county, lives with her daughter, Mrs. Lee Clark.
The Plymouth Mine is the main cause of the
town’s activities but dry farming grows in
importance, and is the real industry that will make
the town substantial. Gabriel Roos has a fine store.
Frank Eudey is a business man of Plymouth.

Hi majseventh:
My brother-in-law who grew up in Plymouth remembers a Charlie and Annie Devore that had a gas station on Hwy 16 (Plymouth to Sacramento). It was about eight miles west of Plymouth - further west than Waits Station which is on google maps but not as far west as the Ione Rd that intersects Hwy 16. They also lived in the station building. It is no longer a gas station but there is still a residence there. He remarked that a daughter or granddaughter of the DeVores has built a home on the hill
across the road from the former station. This would be
considered Plymouth area - not Ione. It is probably same distance to Ione as to Plymouth, though. On the 1930 census there is:

1930 census of township 5 of Plymouth which is the Willow Springs area west of town:

Charles G Devore Head 65 Owns
Annie L Devore Wife 55
Elmer Devore Son ab 20
Edward P Mummert Lodger & employee 28

Charles Devore had a radio set, lived on a farm, 36 age when married, could read & write, b in CA, father b OH, mother b IL, was farm laborer on a stock farm. Note that his son had 'ab' inserted after his name so may have meant that he was absent at college. The son has attended school or college in the last year.

Annie was b in CA, father b in Irish Free State, mother b in NY.

There was a Hotel Devore in Plymouth which burned down in
the early 1930s. I walked to Plymouth Grammar school (1939 - 1947) every day through the front porch of the hotel since it covered the sidewalk - the only part that was still standing. It abutted the existing city park. It has since been torn down completely. I am attaching a photo of the hotel.

Regards,
Nan Wolf
