If you found the 1871 census showing John living with the Adams family you will note that it shows John and Ellen Adams as being born in Quebec.

I was aware of the information at saskhomesteads.com. This is a useful site to know about.

John appears to have come west after his wife died. I believe that William remained in Wellington County up until his death in 1876. He was in Maryborough Twp. in 1851 however I have been unable to trace his whereabouts before that other than a William Clemetshaw in the pay lists for 1838-39 of the Fourth Regiment of Glengarry Militia. I am still in need of additional information to determine whether this is the same person as was in Wellington County, or not.

I just realized that John Clemenshaw's marriage record (to Mary Ann Tremain) does show him as born in Glengarry however I have yet to find any other corroborating information for the other children.

I sometimes find that the more info you get the more confusing things become, but the "Family Search" site is very helpful, tho sometimes dates don't correspond. Luck, Butch
