I know they were very,very poor. Living on a small house boat on the river. Eliza is to have died in Cherokee Co from what my grandmother was told by the family that raised her. Charley & Malinda Hawkins in Cedar Bluff. Grandmother was only a few months old when Eliza died in 1908/9. She was told she died from something she had from living on the water so long. I'm sure she is buried in a unmarked grave. I wonder if at time of her death they may have been living at a poor house are a poor farm what ever they were called. Thing is there is not a birth record for my grandmother either????
