As the original post says, the Hinckley/Hinkley family arrived in Barnstable MASS on the Hercules in 1635. Thomas Hinckley became one of the Governors of the Plymouth Colonies in the late 1600s. They were farmers originally from Kent, Harrietsham and they had large farm families. LOL. There is a chapel in the church in Kent (near Hawkshurst) dedicated to the Hinckley family. My father's Hinckley line moved to Rhode Island, then Putnam County, NY before eventually settling in NE Pennsylvania in Susquehanna County.Speculation is that the Hinckley family was originally the Hengele surname (Robert Hengele)and came across from France in 1066 with the invasion forces of William the Conqueror but this is not verified.
