(Bessie Lee Tennessee Malinda Caladonia Harris)

On April 18, 1999 I visited Mrs Elsie Harris Tate to find out full name of my ggrandmother - Caledonia= which she was able to provide. In conversation with Mrs. Elsie Harris Tate, an 89 year old (dtr of William Carroll Harris with very sharp memory) granddaughter of Caledonia who was residing at Skilled Care in Sewanee, Tennessee - she stated that Caledonia had once owned 200 acres on Sewanee Mountain and 150 acres located at Gizzard Cove in the valley which Caledonia Harris' family had homesteaded. This land was supposedly lost by Caledonia due to non-payment of taxes and picked up or as Mrs. Tate stated - "Sam Warner took the land from Caledonia, he was a rogue." In this meeting, she also stated that Bessie Lee Malinda Tennessee Caladonia Harris had association with 3 men with whom she had children - George Wesley Robertson, Thomas Love Pyburn,Jr., & James Dove. She stated that Caledonia was only married to James Dove, and only long after the 3 children of their association were older. (m.23 Sep 1903 Grundy County, TN). Stated that all of Caledonia's children went by "Harris" (her maiden name), except her youngest child, Viola Dove, because Caldonia was never married to 2 of the fathers, and to Viola's father when she was about 9 years old. .
