Hello Penny,
I do have a lot of Broom info, but on the PA and DE branch. None of them seem to have gotten further south than Washington DC, at least before the 1800's.
Someone else recently contacted me about another NC Broome, Abel, who he thought was a descendant of my Thomas Broom. I did some checking for him and found some people saying that the NC Brooms were descended from the Maryland branch and therefore Thomas Broome & Elizabeth Coley, who lived about the same time as my Thomas Broom & Elizabeth Hannum. I personally have some doubts about this claim, as it seems that the NC Broom/Broome/Brome family was even more numerous than the northern branch( es) and also were there quite early. The "three brothers" story claims that the NC branch came from Henry Brome, but I have never seen any proof of this. In fact, I am trying to find out what the basis was for the 3 brothers story, which has my ancestor descending from Thomas Brome who supposedly was the ancestor of the John Broome who was Lt Governor of NY (which is why I posted to this forum, considering the conflicting stories on this forum).
This is a copy of a William I found mentioning a William with the same birthdate as you mention. However, the rest of the info doesn't match & I have no idea if this information is correct or proven:
# ID: I569407473
# Name: William BROOM
# Given Name: William
# Surname: Broom
# Sex: M
# Birth: 3 Feb 1753
# Death: 5 Sept 1826
Father: John BROOME b: 14 Jan 1734/1735
Mother: Sarah ISDALL b: 1740
Marriage 1 Elizabeth HELMS
Other than that, I am afraid I can't be of much help on the southern branch. Sorry!
Regards,
Lynn
