Hi there - many thanks for responding. My paternal grandfather had a brother that lived in Wales - i will contact my Mum to find out what his name was. Not sure if there are any relatives still living there. So interesting. Another development is that someone has contacted me who is from the Betmead family living in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. My grandfather used to talk about a relative of our who played football for Grimsby Town when they were in the 1st Division in the early 1900's. His name was Harry Betmead - wonder if this could be a derivative of Bidmead. There are Bitmeads in our history - people unable to read and write or being misunderstood when being asked for the surname - would love to find out!! Kind Regards
