I am decended from Enoch Davis, originally of Virginia, then moved to Montgomery County. He married Nancy Hart, and had several children. I am decended through Mary, his daughter, but strangly Nancy Hart is never listed as Mary's mother, which leaves me guessing. On top of this, family lore persists that Mary was an Indian. I have no idea if this is true, I can neither prove nor disprove it. She was born supposedly in 1813, unknown location. This would be right after Enoch came home from, or when he was fighting in, the war of 1812. He fought in the 13th kenucky Militia, which suffered a major defeat known as Dudley's Defeat fighting against Tecumseh and Proctor outside fort Meigs in Ohio. Enoch fought alongside Isaiah Slavens, whose son James would marry Mary. So I am descended through both Enoch Davis and Isaiah Slavens. Both families would move north to Eel River, Indiana in the late 1820s. I am incredibly interested in Mary Davis. I would love to find out the circumstances of her birth, and be able to put her ethnicity to rest as well. Anyone with any info would be greatly appreciated. :)
