Seeking researchers/descendants of John Bothwell/Jeannie (Jane) Finley, Thomas Madill/Eliza Moncrief, second Mary Tait, John Madill/Ann Crawford (Crosier), and John Madill II/Elizabeth Tait. I am a descendent of all of these families and would like to correspond with researchers doing the same. Most of them are of Irish or Scottish descent, the Madills coming from County Monaghan/County Cavan in Ireland. Jeannie Finley was the daughter of Robert Finley and Margaret Dalziel Finley Padan. (Robert apparently died at sea on the way over and Margaret eventually married Hugh Padan). My great grandmother was Zella Madill Strubeck. She was the daughter of William Madill and Caroline Madill Madill. William was the son of Joseph Madill and Julia Bothwell and Caroline was the daughter of John Madill II and Elizabeth Tait. The Bothwells and Madills intermarried any number of times. Other family names include Bowles, Goodfellow, Tully, Anderson, McAllister, Fuller, Barnard.

I've got a George Goodfellow born 1834 whom married Margaret Madill in 1853. Margaret was born in Ireland in 1835 and died in Peterborough, Ontario. She was buried in Centreville Cemetery, Cavan Twp., Durham Co., Ontario. They had eight children.

Harry,
That would be the correct Margaret Madill. She did, indeed, marry a George Goodfellow. I didn't know her specific birthdate, but her brother, Joseph Madill, my ancestor, was born in 1830 in Ireland, so I assumed it would be close to that time. I know that Margaret's father was a Thomas Madill and the mother was supposed to have been Eliza McCrief (Moncrief) who died young and then Thomas remarried a Mary ?Tait. I do not have the names of Margaret's children but would love to have them if you have them and wouldn't mind sharing the info. My e-mail address is lauraengel@yahoo.com. How are you related? I assume through the Goodfellow side.

Hi Laura
I see you have FULLERs as one of your surnames. I have an Asa Fuller 1830-1913 married Marguarite ?. Marguarite was born in Ontario.. They lived for some time in Durham Co. Their children are Charles E b 1856, Sarah b 1858, Phebe A b 1861 and William E (my gr grandfather)b 1865. I am looking for parents of Asa and Marguarite and any info on siblings of William E.
Any of this sound familiar?
Sheri

Sheri,
The only reason those names sound familiar is that I have them on an 1861 Census for Durham County, Ontario. They were in Manvers township at the time and there was Asa, 27 yrs old, Margaret J. 23 years old, Sarah, 2 yrs, and Charles 4 yrs. There was also an Elizabeth Fuller that was 63 yrs old and born in Ireland. A Jane Fuller, 44yrs, was listed as a farmer. William, 20 yrs was a labourer, James, 14 yrs. Benjamin 10 yrs.
My family member, Mary J. Madill married a Robert Levi Fuller. I don't know who his father was, I'm sorry. I only have his wife's obituary. I wish I could be of more help.

Surnames: Barringer Barrenger Reese Clark Johnston Johnson
I see in your list of names that you are pursuing the Reese family. I have been trying to determine where my gr-gr-gr grandmother Lucinda Reese came from. She married my gr-gr-gr grandfather William Barringer, but the first time I can place them is in Ameliasburgh Township, near Consecon, Ontario in 1839.

I recently ran across a stray piece of information attributed to Vol. I People of Ontario that listed a W.H. Barringer living in Durham County in 1836. I'm curious if your Reese family was in Durham County and if you have run across a Lucinda. It has been said that her father's name may have been Henry.

I would appreciate any thoughts on these two families.

Thanks!
