I seek information about my great-grandfather, Andrew Jackson Whittier, father of Lillian Maud Whittier, my grandmother. She was born in Nicaragua in 1884 and subsuquently moved to New Orleans. Her mother's name was Ella Codd. The only thing we know about Andrew J. Whittier is that he served in the Civil War and that Andrew Jackson was purportedly his godfather. My understanding is that he remained in Nicaragua until my grandmother was three years old and left alone at that time. We don't really know where he was from or where he is buried although I understand there was an Andrew J. Whittier born in Lexington, New York, in 1842 who served in Read's Massachusetts Cavalry and with the U. S. Colored Troops. I am very eager to receive info on the above. Many thanks! Joan von K. Hooper, New Orleans.
