I do not have any photos of the family home but know that James Smithers (Edwins father) is buried in the Oakhampton cemetary. I would be very interested to know if anyone has seen a brick with a small boot mark in it. It could be amongst the other bricks made by Edwin Smithers. The small shoe print in his bricks was that of his daughter Ruth Smithers (my grandmother). As a little girl she would visit the brickmaking site and he would get her to tread in to the wet brick. James died in 1849 at the age of 43 at which time his wife and son Edwin took over his brickmaking business. Photos attached are of the headstone of JamesSmithers, a brick with my grandmothers bootprint and one of my great grandfather Edwin.
