Ms Swisher,
I read your reply. I am a bit suprised to discover another Sands/Appleman relation.
If you are a decendent of the ArchBishop of York, Edwin Sandys and his grandchild James Sands of 17th century Block Island, Rhode Island then we are likely double cousins. My Great-Great Grandfather Sands was Henry Harrison Sands. Before the ArchBishop, I can, with some degree of hope for accuracy the Sands/Sandys/Sandes/Del Sandes/Del Sandis to Simon De Sandis in 13th century England.
My Appleman Great-Grandfather was Samuel Frances Appleman(b. 6/28/1858) of Benton, Pennsylvania. Further back my Appleman trace goes from Mathias(b.10/18/1744), to John Balthasar (Baltes)(b. 3/25/1714), and then Johann-Peter Appleman(n)(b. 1668 in Germany). Johann is the first that I know about in America. He appears to have come through New York in 1710 and settled in Somerset, New Jersey.
Does any of the above seem familier to you?
I will gladly share what I have gleaned from relatives and the internet with you, if you wish.
Robert Sands
