My mother was born in Onaway and as an infant moved to Alma with her parents in order for them to work for Lobdell-Emery. She was born in September 1925, but her family had to stay behind for a short time because my mother couldn't travel as she had pneumonia. My guess is that Lobdells moved to Alma in late 1925 or early 1926. When Lobdell-Emery moved to Alma they were very loyal to their employees and gave jobs to their Onaway employees in Alma. Ironic that 70 years later the old factory would close its doors and the new owners would treat their retirees (the sons of the workers who moved to Alma from Onaway)with such disrespect as to take away part of the retirement income they had spent their lives earning.
