Previously I had done some research on the Burrel Benton family of WEATHERFORD's who came to Texas from Virginia, via TN and IL.

Jefferson WEATHERFORD, (Burrell's father) was the son of (John) Money WEATHERFORD of VA who was born in 1769 and married Frances SPRAGGINS March 30 1790 in Pittsylvania Co VA

Frances is residing next door to Jefferson in Dallas Co TX in 1850.

With the additional information you posted I was able to trace the family from the 1930 census back to the late 1700's.

Jefferson WEATHERFORD was married twice in Illinois.
(1) Mahalia DRENNAN August 26 1840 Madison Co
(2) Mary STADDEN March 18 1841 La Salle Co

He married again in TX to (Mrs) Sarah NEELY, after Mary died.

The information in the obit is correct, Jefferson WEATHERFORD was a state senator and the town of Weatherford was named in his honor. Jefferson died in 1867.

However, there is a certain amount of inforrmation generated in this "notarized statement" that does not fit with the facts.
