Lyn –
Thank-you for the information. I think that you are right about the Georgia OÂ’Berrys
being descendants of the ones in North Carolina and Virginia. Do you or Danny have
any more information connecting Solomon to James? I know that James has a land
grant in Effingham County, Georgia in 1762 but I havenÂ’t found anything connecting
him to the OÂ’Berrys in McIntosh County. I am putting together an OÂ’Berry database
located at the worldconnect link below. If you or Danny have any information on Wilson
that you would like to add IÂ’d be happy to do it.

Since your family is from Hernando County, Florida you are probably descended from
John Jordan OÂ’Berry from Pierce County, Georgia. He had five children that moved
down to the Hernando/Pasco County area after the civil war. They are as follows: James
Ransom, John Marion, Henry Bassett, Joseph William , and Sarah (OÂ’Berry) Batten.
Perhaps your great great grandfather James is this James. Henry Bassett also had a son named James
(look at
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GETdb=sa... for more family tree info).
I am also attempting to put together a web site on these O'Berrys but it is still rough. It is located at
www.geocities.com/sarahcelesteMarty OÂ’Berry has some information about the possible origin of the name OÂ’Berry in
Ireland (see message #85). It may stem from the name OÂ’Berra in County Offaly, Ireland.
We havenÂ’t been able to find out who the original OÂ’Berry to come over was, however.
The furthest back that I have seen the OÂ’Berrys from Georgia traced is to Solomon OÂ’Berry in McIntosh County, Georgia. He is probably descended from the North Carolina and Virginia OÂ’Berrys through a James OÂ’Berry (see previous message). I have also heard that Solomon (or his father) is the one who came over from Ireland, but again noone that I know has been able to make a connection.
Good Luck with the wedding plans and I hope this helps some.
