Do you happen to have anything in your "collection" for a woman of this name, born prob. ca. 1744/5 or so, m'd (as Brittain) to Jeremiah [3] Bradway/Broadway, in Smithfield RI on 19 Feb 1769? They removed to Lanesborough, Berkshire Co. MA, probably abt. 1765 or thereabouts. (In 1790 census, there.) I could find no ID for her under either spelling in Smithfield RI records (housed in Central Falls RI) and I really think she was a BRAYTON. Jeremiah's grandmother was Comfort Fish (dau. of Daniel [2] and Abigail [mumford])Fish of Portsmouth, so there may have been family connections that way.

"Gen. Dict. of RI" shows that Stephen and Patience (Nason) Brayton had a dau. Patience (she was exec'trix of hgis estate) and ALSO a grandaughter by that name, whose father was Isaac Brayton, dec'd in 1749. Overseer for Stephen's estate was his nephew, Baulstone Brayton of Smithfield and he was to see that Isaac's children, Stephen and Patience were educated. (Another sibling, Mary, is mentioned in the will but not specifically for being "educated.") That might very well have brought them from Portsmouth over to Smithfield.

I couldn't find anything more on them, but this was research I did some 25 years ago and new info may have surfaced since them.

I haven't been able to get back to Central Falls to do anything further and couldn't stretch out the NGS Genealogical Conference in Providence this past June to allow time to do it then.
