Hi, Our name is the same now but I have just learned that ours was originally Kubaba. My husband's grandfather was born in Russia.Where,we aren't sure. He was fleeing the army and went to Poland where he met and married Betsy Jankowitz. They came to the US about 1880. Do you know anything about the origin of our name? I know the name is a German one. We were in Germany and there was a Kuba manufacturing co. Made audio equipment...radios etc.

Nancy,

My mothers maiden name is Jankowitz. My mother and aunt know a bit about the Jankowitz side of the family. We also have pictures of the family but I can't identify the people because nobody asked my grandmother before she passed away.
If you would like to make an inquiry about Betsy let me know.

Hi , Thanks for offering to help. I would love to know more about Betsy. I'm fairly sure she was born in Poland, probably in or near Mokow Mazowiecki. Her father's name was Zvi.She married Yehuda Kubaba and they came to the US about 1880s.Do you think we may have a tie? Betsy may not be her real name, probably not actually.

My parents are from pittsburgh. My grandfathers name was Leo. He had several brothers, and sisters. I am not sure of all their names. Leo was from Czech also. I am pretty sure that we had an uncle john, but the family was sort of distant even though they all lived in pittsburgh.

My research shows Kuba's in Pittsburg and the Hazleton area. I also found the name in Japan, Poland, Germany, and Russia. My grandparents came from Slovakia, Josef and brother Michael Kuba. Arrival date approximately 1910? Married Helen Evanko and had 6 children. In Japan the name refers to a palm tree.

HI: MADE SOME RESEARCH ON KUBA NAME. IT IS MORE POPULAR THAN YOU WOULD BELIEVE. I FOUND IT IN GERMANY, (KUBA STEREO ELECRONICS), RUSSIA, POLAND, CZECHSLOVAKIA (SLOVAKIA), AND OF ALL PLACES JAPAN! IT IS QUITE POPULAR IN JAPAN, REFERRING TO A TYPE OF PALM TREE. IN OTHER PLACES IT TRANSLATES TO A SPIDER.
