Surnames: Langenek, Kibel
Good afternoon,

I am looking for information on my family who came to America, I assume, around 1905 from Austria-Hungary. They later returned about the time of World War I.

Are there records showing people returning to Austria Hungary? My great grandfather and his mom returned in 1920 and there last address is in Vukovar, Yugoslavia - now Croatia. This is why I'm asking on this message board.

I assume my 2nd great-grandpa died in the war because when the two return, Theresa (his wife) is listed as a widow. His name is Friedrich Langenek and I did find that name listed on the casualty list on the Kramerius website for World War I but I can't confirm it's the same guy. He is also listed in the 1910 census living with Theresa and her family in PA. I assume they returned to Austria-Hungary between then and the war. I do know that my great-grandfather was born in PA as well according to all of his records (and that's what he told my grandfather).

According to their Ellis Island record, my great-grandfather (same name as his dad but listed as Fridrih on the Ellis Island record) and his mom came from Vukovar as I mentioned and I assume they stayed with her family. I assume this because their name they give for someone still in Vukovar is someone named Adam Kibel, which is Theresa's maiden name.

I'm not sure where to go next to find out more about my 2nd great-grandfather and his war record. Any recommendations? Are there records of people immigrating to that area as well?

Thank you for your time!
