I am trying to find an obituary for my g grandfather John William Brown. He was born 1849 in England or Ireland, and died in 1899 or 1900 in Arkansas City KS. He was listed as one of the incorporators of "Delphi" and he and my g grandmother, Eva Woolsey, were the first couple married in the town in 1870. Dates of birth or death and any relatives would give me a chance of finding where he was born and his family. Family legend said he decided 50 was old, and that when he turned 50 he was old and that he was going to die, and he did. His wife is shown as a widow in the 1900 census.
According to the database for Riverview Cemetery he is buried in block L 1/36 (old) but a kind lady, who went to the cemetery to check the dates, was unable to find the grave. If there are archives of the Arkansas City newspaper for that time frame he would probably be mentioned because he was mentioned occasionally in the already on-line portions. I don't know if they are indexed in any way.
I understand there is a book or CD of obituaries that may contain Arkansas City records but is primarily Winfield. If someone has a copy and could look for John William Brown I would really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance
Marci
