Their Golden Anniversary
On August 16, Mr. and Mrs. NAPOLEON BONAPARTE BLANTON attained their 50th wedding anniversary and while no formal golden wedding was held, yet a large number of their children and grandchildren were present to do honor to the occasion. In fact so many are still in Sulphur that Mr. Blanton had to rent a cottage across from his home at Vinita Avenue and Fourth Street to house them all. There were originally 11 children, 8 are still living. There are 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. All this mind you, Mr. Blanton is but 78 years old and his wife is 10 years younger.
The vigor and longevity of the family is also shown by the fact that Mrs. Blanton’s mother, MRS. ELIZA GODFREY, is living and is more sprightly at 86 than her daughter twenty years younger. Mrs. Godfrey lives at Edward, I. T.
But the mere fact that one has a numerous family does not signify much unless the children are upright, intelligent and a credit to society. It is on this score that the Blantons have more room for congratulations. The girls are all good looking (at least all we have ever met). They are pronounced blondes and handsome. This may have something to do with the fact that their husbands are among the wealthiest and most prominently politically in the Twin Territories. For they could not have been raised by Mr. Blanton and not be impressed with much of his strong religious fervor and independence of character.
Mr. Blanton is an ardent socialist, yet he numbers among his sons-in-law, no less a prominent advocate of other views than ex-delegate to Congress, DENNIS FLYNN. The Blanton boys, three of them living, also all hold positions of trust and importance. But they seem in no way as fortunate in getting wives as their sisters do husbands, for all three of them are still bachelors.
MRS. DENNIS FLYNN of Oklahoma City, MRS. FANNIE STREETER of Sulphur, MRS. D. C. CROLL of Edwards, I. T., MRS. ED JULIAN of Lawton, JOHN BLANTON of Sulphur, FRANK BLANTON of Blanco, I. T., MRS. L. A .HECKARD of Wichita, Kansas, and N. B. BLANTON jr of Lawton.
The two grandchildren are the children of a deceased sister, MRS. LINDLEY, They are RICHARD SCOTT and his baby brother.
Then there is Grandmother Godfrey, the mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of the whole family--a clan of sons and daughters who are credit to the state and the nation.
It is the opinion of the Democrat, that this golden anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Blanton should have bee made even more of a red letter day than it was. In these days of divorce, when the President of the Republic feels called to denounce suicide, it is well to behold these two old people who have dwelt in peace and harmony together for all of a half of century.
