I am looking for the ancestors of a Nancy Daniel who married a John Mason c 1840 and had two sons, George Lee Mason b Oct 1842 d Nov 21, 1885, and Jimmie (b unknown but after George) in Washington Co., GA. My family record states that Nancy Daniel had two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Irwin and Mrs. Mary Gilbert, and one brother, Judge Samuel Daniel. John and Nancy Daniel Mason supposedly died at a fairly young age, possibly in Texas. There was also an Uncle Silas Daniel of Washington Co. GA, and a Great Uncle Jasper Daniel of Bellville Texas. I also have a letter dated 1904 from Dora Rountree Smith (my 2nd gr grandmother) to my grandmother that mentions a "Mrs. Dr. Daniel" in Washington Co. In addition, I have pictures of a Miss Madie Daniel of Cotulla, TX, dated 1910 and a postcard from her to my grandmother.

Do any of these names ring a bell? If you have any information on this branch of the Daniel and Mason families, I would very much appreciate your sharing it with me. John and Nancy Daniel Mason were my 2nd Gr grandparents on my mother's side. Their son, George Lee Mason became a medical doctor, married Mayme Vandella "Mary" Smith (daughter of Dr. Benjamin Darius and Dora Rountree Smith) in Washington County Sep 26, 1872, and fathered 8 children (including two sets of twins) before his death in 1885. The house in which they lived is still standing in Washington Co.

NOTE: Dr. George Lee Mason was buried originally in the Young Family Cemetery in Washington Co., GA, and his name is included in the cemetery list on this web site. However, in the late 1960s, one of his grandsons had Dr. Mason's remains moved to the City Cemetery in Swainsboro, Emanuel Co., GA, and re-buried there in the Mason family plot next to his wife, Mary Vandella Smith Mason Bridges.
