Alexander Thompson and his wife, Cecelia Robinson moved from Perthsire, Scotland to eastern Ontario, Canada with at least one child, (John b. 28 Jan 1829 ) in 1832. Alexander and Ceclia had a daugher, Elizabeth b. 7 Sept, 1833 near or in Sarnia or Carleton Place. (John and Elizabeth migrated to Rice, County, Minnesota.) Alexander may have had a brother or uncle, Andrew, who trained as a physician in Edinburgh, from which he departed for the U.S. (or Canada) in 1809.
