After a long search with many dead ends, have found John J. Van Valkenburg was awarded a Distinguished Service Cross
while serving as a paratrooper in WWII. He was a medic and saved several men. Since my Mother was a Van Valkenburg as
well, am looking to find his parents or where he fits into the Van V family. The two books by Iretus Van V does not have anything found on this John nor does any soldier have any service connected to him.
Due to John's achivements and bravery, it is expected there were newspaper articles on him, but from here in North Carolina I can only search so far. I found he enlisted from Albany (county) NY. I have his serial number but searches only turn up his name and
the citation for the award.
Any further information would be greatly appreciated for this hero. Jeremiah Palmer
