I have hit a massive brick wall with my Brooks family. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

James Isaac Brooks married Eliza O'Mahony (nee Hancock) in Adelaide South Australia in 1887. On the marriage certificate, Jame's age was given as 25 (therefore born c 1862) and his usual place of residence was listed as Bordertown South Australia. His father's name was given as Abraham Brooks.

Their first child Stella Brooks was born in Bordertown in 1887. Second and last child, Hilda Ilma Brooks was born in Victoria in 1890, either at Hamilton or Castlemaine.

James Brooks disappeared from the picture sometime between 1890 and 1898 when his wife remarried at Ballarat to Henry Munsey.

So far I have been unable to find Jame's birth or death. I have also searched for a divorce in Victoria in the relevant time period but without any luck.

The only Abraham Brooks I have come across was married to a Brigit Quain, but there was no record of them having a son James. There was an Abraham Brooks in Canada who had a son James at the right time, but it seems that this James was having children in Canada at about the same time my James was having his in Australia.

Any suggestions as to where I can go from here would be appreciated. Trish
