I can not seem to find the answer to my question so I thought I would give it to those of you from Maryland.

Here in South Carolina I have an ancestor whose local records reflect a birth in Augusta, Maryland in 1767. In addition, her 1850 census reflects a birth place in Maryland. However, I cannot seem to find an Augusta, Maryland.

Does anyone know if there was an Augusta, Maryland back in the 1760's? Could it be the current Augusta County, Virginia? I would really appreciate any insight.

The family is Givens, and Margaret Givens was born in 1767. Her father may have been a William Givens. She was in South Carolina by 1800 to marry a James Neil.
