I'm attempting to figure out what unit James Albert Brown "aka" J. Albert brown served in during the Civil War. I assume he enlisted in a New York Unit as his parents and siblings all lived in Genesee, Allegeny Co. in the 1860 census. James Albert Brown was born 7 June 1838 in Milton, Northumberland Co., PA. son of Rev. Thomas Bruen Brown 1810-1879 & Margaret A. Sanderson. James Albert Brown married Martha Jane Stillman on 20 November 1866 and by 1870 he was living in Westerly, RI where he served at least 19 years in the Rhode Island Militia. He died in Brooklyn, NY in 1912 but is burried in Riverbend Cemetery, Westerly, RI. His wife Martha died in 1924.
