William Layton residing in Monmouth Co NJ (1667-1708) was progenitor of thousands of Layton descendants. Information has circulated for some years that he and his ancestors belong to the "Lawton" family.

I believe that the "Lawton" connection is incorrect and his parents remain unknown.
