We had my wife's brother do a (Ancestry) Y-46 test recently. The family surname is Wolfe and we have established through multiple methods the family came from the Limerick area of Ireland in the later 1840s. We have the Excel file of the various Y-46 markers and that looks "normal" (not that I really understand it, but they all have values). However, when you go to look at the halpogroup report, there is nothing except this:
Unknown haplogroup. We are currently working to develop a detailed description and migration map for this haplogroup. Please check back again later as we continue to expand the content on our website.
Also, there were no matched.... nada.... nothing.
I really don't understand. There are hundreds (?) of halpogroup combinations. How can there be an unknown group and one that is from Western Europe, no less? I've done Ancestry Y-DNA tests on myself and other males from various places on my family tree and the test has ALWAYS yielded valuable and useful information.
