someone else's incorrect tree

Hi, I'm very new and have yet to begin my own tree. I'm wary in doing so because I have already found several flaws in other trees that are attached to my family. In the Kelley family tree (more than one linked to Lewis H. Kelley) they keep attaching a dead woman in my very much alive great-grandmother's place. I understand how the mistake was made but many people will accept her as part of this family while her real family may not find her. And the only reason I knew this info was wrong is because I have my great grandmother as evidence. What about all the supposed "facts" that are going to be attached to my tree if I make one? I would appreciate any guidance here, ty
