Im new to this site so hi! My name is Stuart Peers, a Police officer who lives in a town called Stockport,in Cheshire,England.(This town incidentaly is the ancestral home of the Dodge family of Dodge car and City fame)
I am currently researching my family tree mainly focusing on the Peers surname itself and its origins. Please forgive me if you Peers folk already know this but the origins of the name Peers is derived from the French name of Pierre(Peter)and is believed to have been introduced into Egland in the wake of the Norman invasion in 1066!Variations include Piers,Pears and Pierce. There is actually a coat of arms available which
includes a lions head on chevrons and its
translation means the virtues of prudence, modesty and constancy. Sorry to go of the subject so much ; I have so far only got back as far as my Great Great grandmother and father whos details are as follows as mentioned in the english census returns of 1881. Father James Peers 35yrs
Bricklayer,Mother Elizabeth Peers 30yrs
a Tailors presser,James Peers 12yrs,Elizabeth ann Peers 10yrs,Thomas Peers
8yrs, Samual Peers 5yrs(from whom Im descended) and John Peers 9 months.
All were born in the village of Nantwich Cheshire, England which is in the north west
about 30 miles of a city called Manchester.
If you have any info or I can be of any help
(i do visit the records office every now and again and provided people out there dont deluge me I could do a check or two on their behalf)
