I am searching for details of a February 1902 murder that took place in Winona, Mississippi. Tom Brown shot and killed Murdee or Mert D. Williams. Brown was convicted and sentenced to hang. After several appeals and re-trials, he was given a life sentence instead. He escaped prison and made his way to St. Louis, but he was recaptured. I believe he was eventually pardoned. Tom Brown may be my great, great uncle. I am hoping someone may have details from local newspaper articles, folklore or something with personal details that will help me decide if this was my Tom. (The trial was moved to Carroll County.)
