Can anyone help?

I have just recieved my new laptop. I ordered one that was on XP as i know my FTM works fine on that, however when it's arrived its the Windows7 version. Will FTM run on that? I started off on FTM version 6.0 then bought the FTM2009 Upgrade disc, both of which i have installed on my Desktop computer. Do I have to install both versions for the FTM20009 upgrade to work and will i be able to on Windows7 or is version 6.0 too old. i need to know before i run set up on the new laptop as i can only return it unused. In your replies can you please be as basic as you can as i am a bit thick where computer speak is concerned.
