I was only a very young boy when my father died from Leukemia in September of 1962. I vaguely remember my father, and have no personal memories of my grandfather. But Dad's obituary article states that his father attended the funeral, comming from his home in Canada.
I can only assume that he moved to Ontario, as there were/are many Bechtel relatives in that area.
Grandpa was married three times.
First time to Kate Estep in 1897, and they divorced in 1905.
Second time to Zepha Strombeck in 1906 and they divorced in 1917.
After that I can see he was still in Indiana in the 1920 U.S. Census, but then I am told by a distant relative, that grandpa moved to Canada, and remarried a third and final time. It is said that they had quite a number of children, and that several of the boys became semi-professional golfers.
James Vernon Bechtel-Beghtel was born 10 July 1879 in Indiana and died in Canada some time after Sept. 1962.
He did not usually go by James but seems to have proferred Vern, Vernon or LaVern.
With Kate he had two sons, Jesse Erman and Raymond William.
With Zepha he had three sons, Emery Earl, Walter Theodore and Robert Marion.
No one we are in contact with knows the name of the third wife or any of the children.
Is there a way to find out where he is buried in Canada?
I do not even know what county or city he lived in.
I realize this is rather like a wild card search, but it is the very best I can do.
Sure could use some help locating my grandfather's grave. At least with that I could begin a search for his death record, or find out about this third wife.
Thank you for your help.
