I am trying to trace my Baker ancestors. That side of my family is shrouded in mystery - when I first started looking I searched using my grandmother's name, and immediately came up with a census showing that she had half-siblings from her father's first marriage. She'd never mentioned them to my dad, and neither had her sister. We were also told that out of the seven brothers and two sisters, only one daughter had married, and one brother late in life, and that my dad was the only descendant. I've since found out that two other brothers also got married and had children, and the one who was married later in life had a child when he was about 18 - no idea of who the mother was.
Does anyone know anything about William Baker 1825 - 1873 and his wife Catherine Harrison 1830-1899 and their ancestors? I know that Catherine had a stepfather whose surname was Jackson which threw me for quite a while. Also her own mother had a stepfather with the surname Pedder. William Baker was a waste cotton merchant.
