In an 1842 will, James Anderson states "I bequeth to my beloved wife the plantation in which we now live"

Is the word "plantation" an Irish term or an PA/VA term?

I thought I had seen the term in Irish books???

I had thought my James Anderson Irish like his wife. However, my brother swears he has roots in Virgina.
