The previous John Grant thread had grown just too hard to follow so I will try a new thread to sort it out . Barb's original posting sought info on her John Grant so I will deal with him first .
Peter Grant KRRNY apparently sailed from Scotland 1774 and settled on Kingsborough Patent NY with rent due date 25 Sept 1778 . After the Rev War Peter Grant received half Lot 10 Front Charlottenburg which he shared with Sgt Kenneth McDonell . Evidence points to this Peter Grant having sent his wife and daughter [names unknown] and sons Duncan and John Grant ahead with the McDonell group on the Pearl 1773 [the WHY of this manoeuver is still under investgation].
Duncan Grant then settled on half Lot 20 South Branch Road next to Roderick Rory McDonell KRRNY and his son John Roy McDonell on Lot 19 . The younger son John Ban Grant settled with his father Peter Grant on said Lot 10 Front . It would also appear that in later Petitions to the Crown that this Duncan Grant , John Roy McDonell and John Ban Grant had their names inserted on the United Empire Loyalist list as having been affiliated with the Scouting Regiment of the KRRNY . This John Ban Grant UE is the subject of that previous posting by Barb . He later had a son named Peter Grant .

Mention is also made of Big John the Robber Grant . I would put his birth date 1725 and death circa 1783 , His parents are not Aeneas / Angus Grant b. 1701/02 d. 1779 and Hannah Grant ; as they are the parents of a different John Grant of Duldreggan or as I refer to him as John Duldreggan Grant of Lots 25 & 26 Street Road Charlottenburg .
Big John the Robber Grant is the father of Angus Ballagooey Grant aka the Laird of Martintown , who was born in Scotland circa 1745 to his mother Mary McIntyre . Angus the Laird Grant drew Lot 24 South Side Raisin River where Martintown is . Big John the Robber Grant had a storied life but most probably did not survive the trek from the Kingsborough Patent NY to Canada circa 1783 .

As Anne and Evelynn have noted in previous posting there were several ships which left Scotland 1785/86 headed for settlement in Glengarry . One of those ships put in at New York instead . Those settlers walked to Canada in 1786 . John Duldreggan Grant and 8 of his 9 children were in this group and once here he drew Lots 25 & 26 Street Road Charlottenburg where he is found as Mr John Grant on McNiff's Map 1786 . This John Duldreggan Grant Lots 25 & 26 then married a Mary McIntyre in Montreal and had 8 more kids with her , the last being Alpin Grant born in 1802 the year John Duldreggan Grant Lots 25 & 26 died . Both Big John the Robber Grant and John Duldreggan Grant Lots 25 & 26 were from Glenmorriston area Scotland and both had a son named Angus , however the one became the Laird of Martintown and died there while the other Angus Grant died in India --- the only one of John Duldreggan Grant Lots 25 & 26 seventeen children who never lived in Glengarry . There were two different Mary McIntyre , the one giving birth to Balagooey in 1745 Scotland , and the other bearing Alpin Grant 1802 Glengarry .

To further muddy up the waters , I have found that * Grant (Duldreaggan) , John * has had his name inserted on the United Empire Loyalist list by a UELAC member from Vancouver in a Proof dated 2006.11.13. I feel this man can be none other then John Duldreggan Grant Lots 25 & 26 Street Road Charlottenburg . As previously noted he had remained in Scotland into 1785 and arrived here in 1786 , and had not taken up land in the American Colonies prior to the Rev War ending in 1783 . How would this make him UE . Several months of contact with Dominion Branch UELAC has not resolved this matter as I seek to have him expunged from that UE list .
