If you Google my subject title ---Mohawk Valley Loyalist Claims---you should find a site showing some of these Loyalist Claims , from the Second Report of the Bureau of Archives by Alexander Fraser , Provincial Archivist 1904 . If you have not seen these before , they can be a gold mine resource . An example would be the Claim of the late Alexander McDonell [whom I take to be Aberchalder] , submitted by his eldest son John McDonell who served in the 84th . Claim is Dated Montreal 28 Jan 1788 , and Alexander McDonell was said to have died 19th Dec 1787 . Claim also states this Alexander and son Donald McDonell were held prisoners of the Patriots , and mentions other son Hugh , as well mentions that Alexander 's wife survives [no name given] .
