I have Alexander Cameron and Hugh McDonell as witnesses to a Land Petition Claim made by Ann Nancy McDonell Grant as only daughter and Heir at Law of Donald McDonell who served as a Non-Commissioned Officer joined KRRNY in 1777 and was killed at Siege of Fort Stanwix August 1777 . On McNiff's Map 1786, I found an Alexander Cameron and Hugh McDonell sharing Lot 51 North Side Raisin River Charlottenburg . I think this Hugh [Ewen] McDonell was married to an Isabella Cameron [possible related to Alexander] . Because they are swearing that said Donald McDonell resided in New York Province prior 1775 and killed August 1777 Fort Stanwix , that they were of similar age and circumstance . Lots of speculation here on my part as I may have located the wrong Alexander & Hugh , but I have to start somewhere . My next step is to try and find which McDonell family Hugh was from and maybe that links to Donald . I do not think the KRRNY would classify as a regular British army unit , so what rank might a Non-Comissioned Officer attain ?
