I've lost track of a woman who appears in the 1850 census in Virginia, and then the 1880 census in South Carolina. She's listed as "single" in the 1880 census -- not widowed, but there's no space for divorced. By 1880 she would have been only 57 years old. She appears in no city directory of the time, and all my efforts to locate a marriage record have failed. I'd really like to track her through the 1860 and 1870 census. Her father died in Memphis, TN, in 1856 but there's no record I can find of succession or probate.
Any suggestions on where to look next?
