I have a male relative that was named Shirley R McCarty born about 1918 in Michigan, joined the Navy in California, got married then divorced. He lived in CA until 1952 but after that I can not find any more about him. I recently learned that he had his first name legally changed to Shaun but I don't know where or when he had that done. I found a Shawn McCarty who died in California having the same birth year but his SS# was issued from New Mexico.

Does anyone know where or how I can confirm that? Thank you for any help you can offer.
