Thomas Walker Howard was born in February 1820 in Virginia. I have found no record of his parentage except for, I believe, his mother in the 1850 Census is living with him. Her name is J. F. Howard born 1794 in Virginia. I can only guess what the initials are, I cannot find a grave for her, have not determined who her husband was or if she remarried. It appears she is widowed at 56 years of age. In the 1850 census this family is living in Washington, District of Columbia, Georgetown. In 1841 Thomas Walker Howard married Martha E. Herbert in Washington, DC. Martha was born in 1822 in DC. While her marriage record says her last name is Herbert, her children all suggest her last name to be Talbot so I do not know if she was previously married or if this is an error of some kind. The headstone says her last name to be Talbot. Children born to Thomas and Martha Howard: George Thomas Howard born 1841, Susan Howard born 1842, Sarah Frances Howard born 1842 (died single 1924,) Thomas Howard born 1846, Walter Howard born 1848, Laura Virginia Howard born 1849, William Howard born 1850, Florence Howard born 1853 (died single 1911,) Dundas Walker Howard born 1857, and James Howard born 1860. All Children were born in Washington, D.C. I believe the first child to marry was Laura Virginia Howard to Alfred Edson Puffer in 1864 at her age of 14. Probably she married so young as her mother Martha Howard had died in 1860 at 38 years of age. George T. Howard married Kate Coombs (or Combs) in DC. I believe son Thomas entered the Civil War in 1864 and was disabled. In 1906 I find a Thomas Howard married to a Laura Howard and he is living in a Virginia Soldier’s Home and he dies in 1908. I have found no other record on son Thomas. Dundas Walker Howard, AKA Walker Howard was married 3 times, first marriage 1882 in Manhattan, NY to Matilda Letzheiser, second marriage 1887 in Pittsfield, Ma. to May Dunham, third marriage 1900 in Manhattan, NY to Anita Evelyn Ferro. William Howard married Ellen May McKenna in 1880. Thomas Walker Howard, Sr. died in Washington, D.C. in 1911 at the age of 91. Would appreciate any leads or family ties.
