Richards/Stephens connection? Platteville, Grant County

Classification: Query
Surnames: Richards/Stephens
I have hit a brick wall with my great grandfather:

William Henry Richards
born June, 1856 in England (presumably Cornwall)
arrived in U.S. around 1859
married Ellen Ivey in Platteville, 1883
died in Platteville in 1933

He and Ellen are buried with Joseph C. and Mary Richards at Greenwood Cemetary in Platteville so I'm guessing Joseph is related somehow. I've found a Joseph Henry Currie Richards that seems to fit. Joseph's mother was Ann Stephens, who married Nicholas Richards.

I've found a census record from 1870 showing a William H. Richards, age 14, living with Michael (age 72) and Mary Stephens (age 70) and Ellen Stephens (age 27) in Platteville.

A census from 1860 shows Michael and Mary Stephens (age 62 and 60) with children: Emily, Samuel, and Ellen. It also lists William H. Stephens, age 4. I'm thinking this might be an error and William H. is actually the same William H. Richards in the 1870 census.

I just can't seem to make any family connection between the Stephens family and my William Richards. I've found lots of documentation of the various Stephens but there are so many of them I'm getting a little dizzy.

Any ideas out there?
