Does The Provincial Hospital, Lancaster, New Brunswick, Canada still exist?
Why would children from England go to Canada in circa 1920's.?
Can you help? Name Joseph Miles son of Joseph Miles and Alice Jane Miles (nee Lancaster) of Birmingham, England. Sisters Ellen & Alice. All put in childrens home in England when mother was ill. Lose all trace of mother & father!
Ellen traced Joseph (Jo) to Canada in 1961. He was with Foster-mother Jane Manning of R.R. #2, Sussex workin as a Farmer. In 1941 he was admitted to The Provincial Hospital, Lancaster, N.B. (probably depressed) following an unfortunate love afair.
He got well and returned to work in June 1941. He is next heard of 21 Jan 1944, refusing food, resenting help, asocial, with Schizophrenic illness. His Foster-mother marries a Francis Mathias and moves to 10 Brunswick St, Saint John, N.B. and stops contacting the hospital by by about 1957.
We have a letter from Francias saying she cared for Jo as a son and though he visited after his wifes death his condition was unchanged.
15 June 1961 last trace needing fulltime care at same hospital under J Murphy M.D. In the hospital letters they spelt his name myles.
Ellenis now dead - Jo would not know. IS JO ALIVE OR DEAD - WHAT EVER HAPPED TO HIM? We would like to trace this mysterious uncle and find his record - can anyone out there help - please. All help appreciated.
