I’ve been researching my Smith family roots in Union County and have a couple of loose ends. My family linkage is from Andrew Smith and Catherine Holderman/Halterman of Rowan Co, NC, through John Devault Smith and Mary Verble, John Jackson Smith and Massey Jane May, to John Andrew Smith and Alice Brown (my gg grandparents), Ross Smith and Annie Laurie Ragland, to my mother Martha Alice Smith.

Three things I’m looking for:

(1) Where exactly is the Smith-Lyerle Cemetery? I think it’s somewhere on old Smith property near the intersection of old precincts Preston, Big Barn, Jonesboro, and Ridge, but not exactly enough to be able to find it. A list of who’s buried there would also be nice.

(2) What happened to the marriage between John Jackson Smith and Massey Jane May Smith? Less than a year after the birth of my gg grandfather John Andrew Smith in 1872, Massey Jane is suddenly married to Daniel Gregory. The older son, Robert Smith, stayed with his father but John Andrew Smith moved with his mother’s new family to Carbondale. Any Smith family members out there have any knowledge of this?

(3) When did John Jackson Smith (also known as John Smith Jr) die and where is he buried?
