OLD SETTLER GONE

Henry VONDEROHE, one of the old settlers of Pierce county, passed away at his home northeast of Pierce last Saturday evening, January 4th, at the age of 64 years, 5 months, and 13 days.
He was born July 21, 1854 at Dreylingen, Hanover, Germany. In May 1871, he came to the United States with Henry HOLST, coming direct to Pierce county. Later he moved to Madison county, where he took up a homestead. In 1894 he returned to Pierce county and has resided here ever since.
In 1881 he was united in marriage to Ernestina SCHMELING, of Madison. To this union were born 9 children, 2 dying when they were quite small. Those surviving are Elvina, Mrs. Henry TESCH, Emil, Herman, and Lydia, of Pierce county and William and Henry living in Madison county.
In September, 1898, he was united in marriage to Emilia BERTRAM. One son, Walter, was born to this union. Walter passed away Wednesday of this week of the pneumonia. Mr. VONDEROHE is also survived by 6 grandchildren.
Mr. VONDEROHE was a man held in the highest esteem by friends and neighbors and his passing is deplored by all.
Funeral services were held at the St. John's cemetery, east of town, Tuesday afternoon, at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H.A. Hilpert. After the burial, memorial services were held in St. John's church.
